Lady Pios impressive in jamboree
LAFAYETTE – The Notre Dame Lady Pios’ volleyball team kicked off the season Wednesday with their annual jamboree at Teurlings, winning three straight matches against St. Thomas More, Sacred Heart and Rayne.
In the opening match, the Lady Pios traded points with STM in a close game before getting three straight points on kills from Allison Leonards, Kylie Pannell and Caroline Stewart to take a 16-15 advantage.
STM rallied to cut the lead to 24-23 before Taylor Simon drilled a kill down the left sideline to end the game.
In the second contest, Notre Dame battled through numerous unforced errors against a young Sacred Heart squad. However, the Lady Pios scored first on a kill from Mayme Cook and led from start to finish to claim a 25-18 victory.
In the final match, Rayne capitalized on early ND mistakes to keep it close.
However, a 9-0 run by the Lady Pios that was capped by a Pannell block on a kill attempt ended the game at 25-13.
