Lady Pios, Lady Bulldogs victorious in volleyball season openers
CROWLEY – The three-time defending state champion Notre Dame Lady Pios opened up the 2013 volleyball season with a 3-0 victory over Academy of Sacred Heart Tuesday afternoon at A.B. Dore Gym.
The Lady Pios won the first two games, 25-14 and 25-15, before closing out the Lady Firebirds in the final game, 25-6.
Lindsey Meyer led the Lady Pios’ offensive attack with 13 kills while Grace Morgan and Alex Miller each had seven. Meyer also had eight digs and one ace. Morgan added four digs, five aces and one block while Miller had four assists, seven digs, three aces and one block.
Also contributing in the victory were Laura Schmid (4 kills, 1 dig), Anne Faulk (5 kills, 5 digs), Sam Lyons (3 kills, 17 assists, 7 digs, 1 block) and Gabbie Romero (1 kill, 8 digs, 1 ace).
In other action, the Iota Lady Bulldogs knocked off DeQuincy, 3-0.
Mallory Faul set up the offense with 19 assists to go along with four kills, eight digs and eight aces.
Madison Meche led the team in kills with 10. She also had one block and five digs.
Jillian Boone racked up 32 digs on the night and also had a pair of aces. Sydney Hebert added 17 digs and Cambri St. Andre had four kills.
Also getting in on the action were Erika Manuel (3 kills, 1 block), Madison Benoit (1 kill, 4 blocks), Sarah Johnson (7 digs, 1 ace), Emily Navarre (6 digs) and Avery Wriborg (3 kills).
Notre Dame will begin play in the Assumption tournament today while Iota travels to Opelousas to take on Westminster.
