Lady Pios shut out Erath
CROWLEY – Mollie Stelly got it done in the circle and Elise LeBeouf provided the spark offensively as the Lady Pios cruised to an 8-0 victory over No. 27-seed Erath in the opening round of the Class 3A playoffs Monday at Hensgens Park.
Stelly limited Erath to just one hit and struck out nine in earning her 18th victory of the season. It was also her seventh shutout of the year.
“Mollie pitched really well,” said ND coach Dusty Collette, whose squad will play host to No. 11 Parkview on Friday at 5 p.m. in a regional playoff contest. “She did a good job of hitting her spots and she kept them off balance for most of the night.”
The Lady Cats had just three runners reach base in the contest, none of whom advanced past first base.
Stelly issued a one-out walk in the first inning and then retired 17 straight batters before giving up another free pass in the sixth. Erath’s lone hit was a leadoff single in the top of the seventh inning, but Stelly sandwiched a strikeout in between two flyouts to end the game.
Offensively, LeBeouf was outstanding.
The sophomore went 3-for-3 on the night with two triples, a double and three RBI.
She drove in a run in the first inning with a triple and then added a two-run triple in the second frame.
“Elise has been doing a good job for us and she had some big hits that really put the momentum on our side tonight,” said Collette. “She’s really seeing the ball and her fundamentals are really there at the plate. She did a good job of letting the ball track to where she was balanced and she could square it up.”
Overall, the Lady Pios had six hits on the night.
Allie Daigle added a double and two RBI while Zoie Lavergne and Taylor Boulet each had one hit.
