Lady Tigers blow out Vinton Ladies 62-41

The young Lake Arthur Lady Tigers took care of business this past Friday evening, January 23, 2009 at home against Vinton, clawing the Lady Lions by a final count of 62-41 in a District 5-2A contest played in the Wilbert C. “Nooky” Moore Gym in Lake Arthur.
Lake Arthur shook off some rust in the opening stanza, pulling away in the last four minutes to take a 16-11 lead over their game opponents.
The Lady Tigers caught fire in the second quarter, as sophomore guard Carly Hay and junior guard Ashalun Brown each scored easy layups after key steals to lead the Lake Arthur charge.
Senior center Samantha LeJeune, sophomore forward Kadie Bonin, and sophomore forward Keyontae Campbell combined their talents in playing great defense and controlling the backboards in a 23-11 eight minute run to give the Lady Tigers a commanding 39-22 lead at the halftime break.
Hay accounted for two three-pointers in the initial half, bombing one in from the left corner and another from the top of the key to pace her team’s scoring onslaught.
After each team scored 12 third period points, the Lady Tigers rolled to an 11-7 fourth quarter advantage to win going away by a final count of 62-41.
Hay led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 19 points, while teammates Campbell and Brown each added 14 tallies. Devyn Trahan popped in seven, Bonin provided four, while LeJeune and Morgan Benoit each contributed two points for the home team.
Brown drew two offensive fouls on Vinton opponents in the paint to pace the defensive effort on this evening.
The Lady Tigers finished the first half of the district race with a 2-1 record, good enough for a tie for the league lead, while Vinton fell to 0-3 in the league with the loss.
Lake Arthur improved to 5-13 on the season with the District 5-2A win.
