Lady Warriors land five on All-District team
CROWLEY – The Northside Christian Lady Warriors claimed five spots on the District 5-C All-District team announced recently.
Topping the list for Northside was All-State pitcher Madisyn Clement, who helped lead the Lady Warriors to the school’s first state semifinal appearance. The sophomore hurler logged 34 strikeouts in 61 innings after taking over the pitching duties late in the season.
Clement was also a force at the plate, hitting in the cleanup spot. She posted an average of .297 with six doubles, two triples and 19 RBI while striking out just four times in 92 plate appearances.
Kristen Spell made the team as an outfielder after leading the team in nearly every offensive category. The sophomore center fielder hit for an average of .463 and had 13 doubles, four triples, one home run and 32 RBI.
She also had eight stolen bases and logged an on base percentage of .474.
Zoie Hanagriff earned a utility spot after hitting .385 with three doubles, one triple, one home run and 20 RBI. The freshman first baseman also tied for the team lead in steals with 14.
Freshman Leah Monte earned a nod at shortstop after hitting .345 with four doubles, two triples and two home runs. She had 100 plate appearances from the leadoff spot and scored 25 runs while swiping 14 bases.
Sydni Guidry, the last NCS representative, made the team at second base. The sophomore hit .304 on the year and drove in 12 runs.
The Lady Warriors, who went 6-2 in league play, were the No. 5 seed in the Class C playoffs and went on to knock off Reeves (10-3) in the regional round before upending St. Joseph (6-5) in the quarterfinals.
They fell to Hackberry in the semifinals, ending their hopes of a state title.
St. Joseph also nailed down five spots on the first-team, including the top two honors in Coach of the Year Ken Knight and MVP Ashley Knight.
Also making the team from St. Joseph are pitcher Macy Firmen, third baseman Elizabeth Link, outfielder Lexie LaCombe and utility player Tiffany Knight.
Elizabeth landed five spots as well in pitcher Tori Brown, catcher Taylor Brown, first baseman Hannah Willis, outfielder Danielle Jeffers and utility player Erin Maddox.
Plainview pitcher Morgan Calhoun and utility player Katy Doyle round out the first team.
Northside Christian also earned four spots on the second team.
Brooke Stanford earned a spot at pitcher after taking the mound for the bulk of the season. She posted a 10-5 record and struck out 51 in 82 innings of work.
The freshman moved to third base when Clement took over on the mound and she hit .225 with three doubles, five triples and 15 RBI.
Maddison Conrad made the team at third base before moving to left field later in the season. The senior hit .246 on the year and drove in 14 runs.
Senior right fielder Natalie Hayes earned a spot after hitting .288 with one double, one triple, one home run and 19 RBI while junior catcher Katelyn Jones got on at utility with a .307 average. She had three doubles, three triples and 12 RBI.
Plainview captured four spots on the second team in catcher Jordyn Cross, first baseman Kellie Crager, outfielder Lauren Rasmussen and utility player Shy Thompson.
Elizabeth’s Jodi Spears made the team at second base, Kaylee Boswell got on in the outfield and Sydney Lafauci made it at utility.
St. Joseph shortstop Sarah Brown and utility player Alexis Barker round out the team.
