Lady Wolves open district play with wins

The Lady Wolves entered Tuesday’s district contest at North Vermilion hoping to improve their 1-0 district slate. That plan played out with a win over the Lady Patriots, brining their district slate to 2-0.

Over the weekend, the Lady Wolves kept busy by attending the Northside Tournament in Lafayette.

Rayne took three wins, Jennings (25-7, 25-11), DelcambreWon (25-10, 25-12) and North Vermilion (25-22, 25-15), before dropping a three-game loss to Breaux Bridge (25-20, 12-25, 8-25).

Stat leaders with totals of the four games were: Niesha Domingue (20 kills, 6 digs, 5 aces, 2 blocks), Mia Guidry (4 aces, 4 kills, 27 assists), Taylor Arcenaux (18 kills, 10 ace, 2 blocks, 5 digs), Haley Comeaux (10 digs), Layni Boudreaux (31 assists, 2 aces, 11 kills, 3 digs), Katie Benoit (8 aces, 13 kills, 5 assists, 3 dig), Blair Bergeron (7 aces, 4 kills, 3 digs), Sidney Fontenot (3 kills, 5 aces, 4 digs, 2 assists), Mary Peltier (9 digs) and Charlyne Peltier (2 kills, 1 dig).

In their first district contest of the 2013 season, the Lady Wolves claimed a straight 3-game win over Crowley High last Thursday (25-12, 25-11, 25-8) setting their bar high at 6-0 overall.

Stat leaders were Taylor Arceneaux (2 aces, 5 kills, 2 blocks), Mia Guidry (2 aces, 2 digs, 14 assists), Haley Comeaux (2 digs), Layni Boudreaux (2 aces, 7 kills, 8 assists), Katie Benoit (1 ace, 6 kills), Niesha Domingue (7 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig), Blair Bergeron (3 aces, 3 kills, 1 block 1 dig), Sidney Fontenot (1 ace, 2 kills, 2 assists), Mary Peltier (3 digs) and Charlyne Peltier (1 ace).

On Wednesday, the Lady Wolves hosted Lafayette High and claimed another straight 3-game win (25-23, 25-16, 25-17) as they geared up for district play.

Rayne stat leaders were Katie Benoit (5 aces, 7 kills, 1 dig), Niesha Domingue (4 kills, 1 dig), Taylor Arceneaux (2 aces, 8 kills), Mia Guidry (1 ace, 1 dig, 8 assists), Haley Comeaux (4 digs), Layni Boudreaux (1 kill, 1 dig, 14 assists), Blair Bergeron (2 aces, 2 kills, 1 dig), Mary Peltier (6 digs) and Charlyne Peltier (1 ace, 4 kills, 1 dig).

The Lady Wolves were scheduled to travel to Carencro High Wednesday afternoon, followed by a home district contest today (Thursday) against Iota. Action begins at 4 p.m. in the Rayne High north gym.
