Lady Wolves record win, qualify for State Tournament
For the first time since 2007, the No. 8-ranked Rayne High Lady Wolves have qualified for the State Volleyball Tournament this week with a four-game win Monday afternoon over Westlake High.
“It wasn’t easy and didn’t look good at times,” stated Rayne High Coach Stephanie Garrett of Monday’s win, “But, it’s a win!”
The Lady Wolves opened up the match with a slim 26-24 win in the first set.
Westlake answered with a 25-20 win of their own in the second set, with a tied up match (1-1.
But, the Lady Wolves combined a good net game, mobile defense and solid serving to pull off two close sets to finish out the 4-1 win and a trip to Kenner.
“I always say that when we play offense, we usually win the match,” continued Garrett. “That’s what we did most of the time today and we did it.”
The Lady Wolves are slated to take on top-ranked Teurlings today (Thursday) during a 4:20 p.m. quarterfinal match of Division III at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner during the LHSAA/State Farm Volleyball State Tournament (Nov. 14-16).
The Lady Rebels are district champs of Rayne’s district.
