Lady Wolves slip in district play, look ahead

RAYNE - The Lady Wolves evened their district record Tuesday as they hosted Teurlings Catholic, but not in the way they wanted, falling in three sets, and evening out their district slate at 1-1.
In the match (20-25, 22-25, 12-25), Teurlings got off to a quick start and never eased up for the district win.
Stat leaders for the Lady Wolves were Madeline Savoy 3 kills, 6 assists, 1 dig; Amanda Bourque 3 kills, 2 digs; Erin LeBlanc 3 assists, 1 ace, 1 dig; Haley Comeaux 5 digs; Katelyn LeDoux 2 digs; Mia Guidry 1 assist; Niesha Domingue 1 kill, 2 blocks; Sidney Fontenot 3 digs; Taylor Arceneaux 1 kill, 1 block; Katie Benoit 3 kills, 4 aces, 1 dig; and Layni Boudreaux 2 kills.
The loss places Rayne High at 14-8 on their season with another district game slated today (Thursday) when they travel to North Vermilion.
In their first district contest last Thursday, the Lady Wolves claimed a three-set win over intra-parish rival Crowley High (25-15, 25-11, 25-7).
Stat leaders for the win at Crowley High were Erin LeBlanc 4 kills, 12 assists; Madeline Savoy 4 kills, 1 block assist, 11 assists and 3 aces; Mia Guidry 7 assists, 2 aces; Niesha Domingue 2 kills, 2 blocks; Sidney Fontenot 2 kills, 1 dig; Taylor Arceneaux 13 kills, 4 blocks, 2 aces; Katie Benoit 4 kills, 4 aces; Layni Boudreaux 1 kill, 3 assists; Abbie Duhon 1 kill; Mary Peltier 1 dig; and Amanda Bourque 1 kill, 1 ace.
“We are not playing bad, but we’re not playing to our potential,” stated Rayne High Coach Stephanie Garrett. “If we can remained focused on the game and handle our job, I think we can turn things around in district this week.”
