Lady Wolves softball team off to fast start
LORANGER – Assistant Coach Donald Usry is a busy man these days. Coach Usry is an assistant for the football team and Girl’s basketball Team and now has the duty of filling in full time as acting Head Softball Coach. But the coach says that he is enjoying coaching a good group of Softball Players.
“We have a real good group and the team is working hard right now and we are trying to win a district title,” said Usry. Usry was a solid player for the Loranger Football Team several years ago and now he is back on the campus that he is very familiar with.
The Loranger Softball Team is off to a solid 16-6 start that includes a 5-1 mark in distrit 10-3A. The Lady Wolves were able to get in one game last week against the Amite Lady Warriors.
“We played well. We are just trying to control the small things and limit our mistakes. We just have to keep working hard and playing well and everything else will fall into place for our team,” Usry said.
The Lady Wolves beat Amite 12-1 to improve their district mark to 5-1. Loranger has a very big week of action with two big district games. The Lady Wolves faced the Jewel Sumner Lady Cowgirls on Monday and will have a huge showdown with the Albany Lady Hornets on Tuesday.
The Lady Wolves have a very young team as on two seniors are currently in the starting line-up and two freshmen players are in the starting mix as well. The majority of the team is made up of underclassmen.
Coach Usry says that the key for the Lady Wolves making a run this season is basically simple as he preaches to his team to focus on the game and try not and give opponents an easy way out.
“We just want to make teams earn everything they get. We are coming together and doing a good job of hitting and now we have to turn up the pitching and defense the rest of the season.”
