Lady Wolves top 5-3A All-District softball selections

Sophomore hurler Mariel Meche and first-year coach Deserea Dunn nabbed top honors during 5-3A All-District Softball Team selections.

Meche led the Lady Wolves to a 7-1 district slate and a second-round finish in the playoffs, for which she was named the district’s MVP.

At her first year at the helm for the Lady Wolves was 5-3A’s Coach of the Year DeDeserea Dunn. She led Rayne High to an 18-9 overall performancce for the 2008-2009 season.

Joining Meche on first team are the following Rayne High teammates: senior second baseman Shandi Deville (.313), junior third baseman Kaitlin Thibodeaux (.363), sophomore outfielder Tori Mott (.350).

Lady Wolves named utility players were junior Julie Botin (.318) and sophomore slugger Kelsey Hollier (.708).

Intra-parish competitors Notre Dame was represented on first team by two pitchers, sophomore Amelia LaVergne (6-1) and Hannah Godeaux.

At the catcher’s position was Lady Pio Meranda LeBlanc. The sophomore turned in a .416 at the plate on offense.

Completing the ND first team roster were sophomore shortstop Taylor Simon (.555), junior outfielders Alex Boulet (.350) and sophomore slugger Hannah Miller (.750), and senior utility player Anna Brown (.416).

Lady Wolves’ second team selections were outfielders Courtney Johnson and Brittany Thibodeaux, along with utility players Skyla Schexnayder, Haley Habetz and Ava Stutes.

Lady Pios named second team were first baseman Charlie Leger and second baseman Hillary Stelly.

On the boy’s side of All-District selections, Notre Dame Tim Robichaux was named Coach of the Year, with Pio junior shortstop-pitcher Ryan Leonards tagged MVP.

Coaching his Pios to another district title in undefeated fashion, Robichaux led Notre Dame to a 23-9 overall season. His Pios fell one game short of the finals, halted by St. Charles.

ND’s shortstop and contributing pitcher, Leonards finished another successful season with a .459 batting average while contributing on the mouund, as well.

Completing the ND roster for first team selections were sophomore pitchers Austin Robichaux (5-2) and Mitch Corzine (5-1), senior third baseman Matt Savoie (.385), senior outfielder Bryant Gilbert (.480), and at utility player were junior Blaine Richard (.377) and sophomore Luke Bourgeois (.329).

Rayne High, who also saw playoff action for the 2009 season, was also represented during first team selections, including hurler Tyler Venable, who completed his junior campaign at 4-4.

Second team selections for Rayne High were sophomore pitcher Austin Meche, sophomore catcher Dakota Broussard, senior first baseman Chris Bourque, junior second baseman Myles Pryor, senior third baseman Trace Duplantis, sophomore shortstop Aaron Chiasson, and junior outfielder Eric Miller.

Notre Dame selections on second team were sophomore utility player Pete Petitjean, freshman utility player Conner Goss, and sophomore outfielder Ricky Stoma.
