Lafayette authorities catch escapee

The inmate who escaped from a Lafayette work detail has been caught.

Michael Proctor was caught after two hours on the loose. The search took K-9, Lafayette Police and UL Police assisting the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office in the search. Authorities searched the areas of Souvenir Gate and St. Thomas, and Annette and St. Patrick.


Law enforcement officials are looking for a 33-year-old white male who escaped from incarceration Friday afternoon.

The man, who left his work detail after 3:30 p.m. Friday, was in jail for unauthorized use of an access card.

Michael Proctor is described as a bald white male, 5 ft., 11 inches tall, and weighing 190 lbs.

He was last seen on foot near the 100 block of E. St. Louis St. in Lafayette. Lafayette Parish Sheriff's deputies and University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police are now searching for an escaped inmate on the ULL campus.
