Lake Arthur Lady Lakers shine at Cheer and Dance Competition

The Lake Arthur High School Danceline took home almost the whole hog at last week’s First Annual “Roastin’ With Rosie Barbecue Festival” Parishwide Cheer and Dance Competition at the Grand Marais Courtyard Pavilion in Jennings.
Lake Arthur High School placed first in the high school division of the Cheerleading Competition, outlasting Jennings High School (second place), Lacassine High School (third place), Elton High School (fourth place), and Bethel Christian High School (fifth place).
In the Jr. High School Division, first place was claimed by Jennings High School, while Welsh-Roanoke took second place honors. The Jr. High Lake Arthur Lady Lakers won third place honors, beating out Our Lady Immaculate (fourth place).
The Lake Arthur High School Lady Lakers also won the Dance Competition, beating out the Jennings High Jazzers (second place), Hathaway High School (third place), the Lacassine High School Red Hots (fourth place), and the Elton High School Star Steppers (fifth place).
In the Jr. High Dance Division, the Lake Arthur Jr. High Lady Lakers won top honors, edging out the Hathaway High Jr. Dancers.
Mid-show entertainment was provided by the LA Showstoppers.
In other news, some of the best cooks in the local area showed up to compete in the International Barbecue Cookers’ Association (IBCA) Cookoff. After the results were tabulated, the winners were as follows:
--First Place, T-Wayne’s Cajun Cooking, Head Cook Tee Wayne Abshire;
--Second Place, We B. Smokin’, Head Cook Don Canterbury;
--Third Place, Fat Boys, Head Cook David Ramirez.
--First Place, We B. Smokin’, Head Cook Don Canterbury;
--Second Place, We B. Smokin’ Too, Head Cook Jan Canterbury;
--Third Place, Coushatta Dream Team, Head Cook Patricia Fugitt.
