Last rites for Mrs. Reed set Tuesday
CROWLEY – A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel for Ruby Love Reed, 86, who died at Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Southwind Nursing Home.
Rev. Glenn Howie will conduct the memorial services. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday until service time.
Mrs. Reed was born June 26, 1922 in Welsh, La to the late William Albert Love and Exes Doretta Young Love. She graduated from Welsh High School, attended SLI and graduated from Baptist Hospital Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse for many years and retired from the Acadia Parish Health Unit after 33 years of service.
She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. After her retirement she spent many years as a volunteer at the Crowley Mental Health Center and also enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Reed was an active member of the Crowley Town Club for many years and was honored to serve as a past Queen for the Mardi Gras Ball.
She is survived by her daughter, Allie Prather and her husband, Billy of Crowley; a son, Michael Reed and his wife, Marguerite of Crowley; six grandchildren, Alisha Prather of Galveston, Texas, Will Prather and his wife, Renee of Lafayette, Garrett Reed Prather and his wife, Jenna of Baton Rouge, Lauren, Michelle and Allie Reed of Crowley; a great grandson, William Nathaniel Prather IV of Lafayette, and also one step-son, Burwin Paul Reed, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Gainesville, VA, and their three children, Heather, Trey, and Kevin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 51 years, Burwin Paul Reed, Sr.; two brothers, William and Bennie Love and two sisters, Edrie Parrott and Martha Snow.
