Leadership EXCEL visits the hospital
CROWLEY – Members of the 2008-2009 Leadership Excel class began the session in Jennings on Wednesday April 15 at Jennings American Legion Hospital.
Meeting with the group in the Board Room were Judy Broussard, Volunteer coordinator with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) and one of the volunteers, Mrs. Leblanc. The ladies informed the participants about the vital services this organization performs in protecting children who are in dangerous environments. As they shared some of their experiences, both emphasized the importance of volunteers in the program.
Matt Sias, the director of the Jeff Davis Addictive Disorder Clinic, spoke on his work with both children and adults who are involved in addictive behavior patterns. The group then toured the hospital, before leaving for the Southwest War Veterans’ Home.
During lunch at the Southwind Activity Center, Dr. Tina Stefanski, Regional Administrator/Medical Director, Office of Public Health, spoke to the group, detailing the many services provided by the office of Public Health. The members proceeded to Southwind Assisted Living where Jill Signorelli conducted a tour of the facility.
The day’s session concluded with a tour of Acadian Ambulance’s Dispatch Center in Lafayette and their new training facility.
The next session on May 6 is on state government. Participants will travel by bus to the Capitol to meet with our area legislators and observe the legislative process. Graduation will be on Monday May 11, with a “wrap up” session, followed by a program and reception for sponsors, employers of participants, and participant family members.
The program is sponsored by the Crowley Chamber of Commerce and Jeff Davis Business Alliance. Applications for the 2009-2010 will be available after June 1.
