Legion Post, Auxiliary install officers
Members of American Legion Post No. 77 and Auxiliary Unit No. 77 held their joint installation banquet Saturday night, July 11, in the Legion Hall.
Mayor Jim Petitjean was a special guest and commended both organizations for their support of the community and, especially of its youth.
Installing officers were Russell and Mary Henry, members of the Sulphur Post, who have each held state and national Legion offices.
During his remarks, Post Commnader Pete Melancon announced he planned to place increased emphasis on helping Louisiana’s veterans while maintaining its high level of youth programs.
Unit President Bonnie Simon reviewed the Unit’s accomplishments, including winning both district and department awards for its prayer book.
Membership certificates were presented to Legionnaires Wilson LeDoux and Ralph Stutes for 50 years of continuous membership and to Prigeon Fontenot for 60 years as a member.
Auxiliary members Olive Petitjean and Cecile Landry were also honored with 60 and 62 year membership, respectively.
