CROWLEY – A mass of Christian Burial was held 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Saint Michael Catholic Church in Crowley for Leola Pauline Roy Mier, 85, who died at 7 p.m. Monday, November 3, 2008 in Crowley.
Fr. Gary Schexnayder celebrated the Mass and committal service at Woodlawn Mausoleum.
Visitation took place on Tuesday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time. The rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Tuesday by Sister Justina Baker.
Mrs. Mier was born August 12, 1923 in Estherwood to the late Eugene and Mary Myers Roy. She was a lifelong member of Saint Michael Catholic Church and a member of the Adoration Society. She worked at many retail stores in Crowley but was best known as the manager of the fabric department at Bealls Department Store. Her older friends called her Lee or Petite but to all who loved her she was affectionately known as “Nannie”.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Rosemary Roy of LaPlace; many loving nieces and nephews, Patricia I. Habetz of Crowley; Burton Landry of Athens, GA; Barbara I. Gary of Crowley; Cheryl H. Habetz of Crowley; Nell Roy of Lake Charles; Nugie Roy, Jr., of Estherwood; Denise R. Halphen of Houston, Texas; Bryan Roy of Houston, Texas; Stephen Roy of LaPlace; Gregg Roy of LaPlace and Delana Mouton of Crowley; many loving great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years, Brady Mier; and eight brothers and sisters, Emily R. Istre, Amelia R. Fruge, Nugie Roy, Sr., Menia R. Landry, Amy R. Istre, Ida R. Hoffpauir, Leroy J. Roy and Curley P. Roy.
Pallbearers will be Edmund L. Habetz, Mark Bernard, Jeremy Patin, Brad Maloz, Burton Landry and Bryan Roy. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Gary, Stephen Roy, Gregg Roy, Tim Landry, Richard Landry, Albert Halphin , Nugie Roy, Jr. and Ricky Mouton.
The family request any donations be made to Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, St. Michael’s Elementary School or the American Heart Association.
