Leonards named All-Star MVP

ALEXANDRIA – It doesn’t matter what stage he’s on, Ryan Leonards always seems to be the star.

It happened again last weekend, when Leonards, who led Notre Dame to state titles in football and baseball as a senior, put on a show at the LHSCA All-Star baseball games and was named his team’s MVP for the weekend.

Leonards, who finished the 2010 prep season with a .504 batting average, went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four runs scored during the All-Star doubleheader at Alexandria’s Bringhurst Stadium en route to being named the West’s Most Valuable player of the series.

He was 2-for-3 with a double Friday evening in a 17-7 loss to the East Squad and 2-for-2 with a double Saturday in a 5-4 victory.

Crowley High’s Justin Desselle worked three innings Saturday for the East squad giving up one run while striking out five.

Joshua Burris of Scotladville, who scattered two singles and struck out four in three scoreless innings of relief Friday night, was named the MVP for the East.
