Leroy ‘Lee’ Lopez
Liverpool, N.Y. – Lee Lopez, 74, a Liverpool, N.Y., resident since 1958, passed away Dec. 23, 2008, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
Born in New Orleans, he was a 1955 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana where he majored in Electrical Engineering.
Mr. Lopez joined General Electric in 1955; he held several positions as a Design Engineer, Marketing Manager and Program Manager, retiring in June 1990. He sold the first Solid State Radar to the United States Marine Corps, and was Program Manager of the Aerostat Radar for the United States Customs Service, Department of the Treasury. He spent considerable time in Europe, Asia and the Middle East verifying requirements of the various countries for G.E. radars.
Lt. Colonel Lopez was a 30-year veteran of the United States Air Force and the New York Air National Guard. His last assignment was as a Liaison Officer for the United States Air Force Academy and Special Adviser to Congressman James Walsh.
Mr. Lopez was active in Masonic activities and was Past High Priest of Riverside Chapter No. 260, Royal Arch Masons, Baldwinsville, N.Y.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Eastin); one son, Richard (Sheila) Lopez of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Shaula (Daniel) Rickmyre of Schenectady, N.Y., and Shari (Gary) Bell of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Wesley, Robert and Emmeline Lopez, Lindsay and Laura Rickmyre, Gregory and Allegra Lee Bell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Maurer Funeral Home, 200 Second St., Liverpool, NY 13088.
