Les Dames tour Encore

CROWLEY - The first meeting of the new season of Les Dames Acadienne was held on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the recreation room of Encore Healthcare and Rehabilitation Home.

After the meeting was called to order by President Betty Miller, Michelle Veillon of Elder Outreach escorted members around the facility on a tour.

Cynthia Kratzer gave the treasurer’s report and new yearbooks were distributed to all club members.

Under old business, it was noted that more recipes are needed for the club’s new cookbook.

As part of its new business, club members decided to make lap robes for nursing home residents again this year.

Pursuant to a motion made by Willie Mae Dailey, the group voted to continue donations to the Miles Perret Cancer Center.

Janis Coignard gave a presentation on household pests and explained how rosemary, chamomile, lavender, lemon grass, sage brush and mint help keep away fleas, mosquitoes, spiders, brown beetles and nematodes.

The ladies enjoyed a lunch served by hostesses Rosalie Landry and Clarice Boullion before exchanging secret sister gifts.

The club’s next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 9, with Lucille Chisholm and Cynthia Kratzer co-hosting.
