Library to begin Summer Reading Program on June 4
CROWLEY – The spotlight this summer at the Acadia Parish Library is on being a “reading star.” Come join in the fun and have a star-filled summer, filled with stories on drama, music, dance, sports, art and many other activities. This spectacular Summer Reading Program will begin May 26 and run through August 9. The Acadia Parish Library invites children, Pre-K through the fourth grade living in the area to come and “Be A Star...Read!” by joining the Summer Reading Program. Upon registration, each child will receive a colorful reading log in order to record the books they read and a colorful bookmark. After a child had read 10 books, his or her name will be placed on the “reading wall of fame” displayed in the library. If a child reads more than 20 books, he or she will receive a special colorful “Be A Star...Read” certificate. All children are welcome to join the program any time before August 9. (Everyone must have a valid Acadia Parish Library Card).
Parents are encouraged to bring their children for a “star of a summer” through stories and crafts that will have their children eager to be stars and be dazzled by reading books this summer. The children will learn to do various activities based on the theme of the day.
T-shirts and book bags with the “Be A Star...Read” logo are available for the public to purchase at each branch of the Acadia Parish Library beginning May 23.
In Crowley, story hour is held every Wednesday a the library starting on June 4 lasting through July 23. The program will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 11 a.m. In addition to story hour, the Crowley library will also be offering a movie matinee every Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. This activity will begin on June 5 and last until July 24 for those in grades five and up.
Each library in Acadia Parish will hold their own respective programs throughout the summer. The schedule is as follows: story hour in Rayne will be held every Thursday from June 5 through July 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; in Church Point, every Tuesday beginning on June 3 through July 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; in Estherwood, every Monday beginning on June 2 through July 21 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.; in Iota, every Wednesday beginning on June 4 through July 23 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; in Mermentau, every Tuesday beginning on June 3 through July 22 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.; and in Morse, every Monday beginning on June 2 through July 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
