Library budget approved by parish council
During Monday night's December 22 parish council meeting the 2009 budgets for the parish library system and parish tourism commission were presented. During the public hearing which no one spoke for or against, council members passed the library's budget. The tourism commission's budget was introduced and in two weeks a public hearing and vote will be held.
The overall budget for the library estimates $2,893,500 in revenue next year and $2,489,600 in expenditures with a $3,446,526 fund balance by the end of 2009. The capital outlay budget includes $2.2 million for a new Amite branch and $165,000 for a new facade for Hammond's branch.
Salaries are also higher than the budgeted amount. The 2008 budgeted amount was $1,303,672 and the 2009 amount is $1,306,300. For 2009, revenue is estimated at $1,171,000 and expenditures are estimated to be the same amount. No information was given on beginning or ending fund balances.
