‘Fossil Giants’ to open April 5 at Lafayette Science Museum
A drive to Lafayette will definitely be worth it starting April 5, when the first installment of the visiting exhibit “Fossil Giants: Dinosaurs and Mammals” opens at the Lafayette Science Museum.
The exhibit will feature towering, dynamically posed fossils, dazzling minerals and prehistoric bones, and will show how dinosaurs, and eventually mammals, evolved over the course of millions of years. Visitors to the exhibit will get “up close and personal” with the prehistoric beasts that roamed the Earth long before we did.
The exhibit also marks the beginning of the museum’s partnership with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Geosciences Department. In addition to providing academic support for the dinosaur exhibit, the university has made its extensive collection of fossils, rocks and minerals available for viewing by members and visitors.
This installment will run 2014 to 2015 and give fascinating facts about the dinosaurs that roamed the earth 200 to 250 million years ago. The 2015 to 2016 installment will cover the Cretaceous Period, and the 2016 to 2017 installment will detail the rise of mammals.
