Carlie Thevis, Andrew Fontenot exchange vows

Mrs. Andrew Blake Fontenot

Carlie Blythe Thevis and Andrew Blake Fontenot, both of Iota, were united in Holy Matrimony on Friday, May 9, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Crowley. Fr. Mikel Polson officiated the 7 p.m. nuptials.

The bride is the daughter of Rosie and Wayne Thevis of Iota. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Audrey Pousson of Iota and the late Rigney Pousson Sr., and Mrs. Norma Thevis of Crowley and the late James Thevis Sr.

Carlie graduated from Iota High School in 2009 and is presently attending McNeese State University, from which she plans to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in business in May.

The groom is the son of Lucinda and Carl Lopez of Evangeline and Tammy and Roger Fontenot of Iota. He is the grandson of Mrs. Loah Simar of Evangeline and the late Lloyd Simar, and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Fontenot of Hathaway.

Andrew is a 2009 graduate of Iota High School and a 2013 graduate of McNeese State University, where he earned an associate’s degree in process plant technology. He is currently employed with Westlake Chemical.

Guests were ushered to their seats by Chad Abshire and Josh Benoit, friends of the groom.

Musical selections for the ceremony were played by organist/pianist Marissa Fontenot.

Selected scriptures were read by Ashley Pousson and Jenna Landry.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was gorgeous in a full length ivory and cream gown with a delicate tulle overlay. Embellished with lace appliques, the dress was defined at the waist by a cream-colored sash and featured a full bubble hem that flowed into a chapel length train. For her headpiece, she selected a matching veil trimmed with lace appliques.

Carlie carried a sphere bouquet of ivory roses and cream-colored cabbage roses entwined with her maternal grandparents’ original wedding bands and a sentimental rosary made of roses from her late grandfather’s casket spray.

In keeping with tradition, the bride placed a penny in her shoe as “something old.” Her maternal grandparents’ wedding rings served as “something borrowed,” while her wedding dress was “something new” and her garter was “something blue.”

Andrea Thevis Chachere, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were April Reed, Erin Leger, Jessica Raspberry, Jourdan Petry and Kellie Watkins, friends of the bride; and Blanche Hensgens, cousin of the bride.

The bridal attendants were clad in champagne-colored sleeveless jersey dresses with coordinating belts. They carried hand-held sphere bouquets of cream-colored cabbage roses, light pink hydrangeas and ivory roses.

Paisley Richard, niece of the groom, served as flower girl.

The groom selected his brother, Shay Fontenot, to serve as best man.

Standing as groomsmen were Michael Simar and Taylor Duhon, cousins of the groom; Ryan Comeaux, Trenton Pickett and Justin Benoit, friends of the groom; and Ben Thevis, brother of the bride.

Barrett Lamm, cousin of the bride, served as ring bearer.

For her daughter’s wedding day, the mother of the bride, the former Rosie Pousson, selected an elegant eggplant-colored chiffon dress featuring a tiered skirt and a three-quarter sleeve lace jacket.

The mother of the groom, the former Lucinda Simar, wore a rose-colored top paired with black flare pants.

Following the ceremony, the newlywed couple celebrated with family and friends at a reception at Point-aux-Loups Springs Ballroom in Iota, where decorations included vases with floating lights and pictures of the couple.

The bride’s four-tiered white cake was decorated with fondant icing and embellished with ribbon and fresh wedding flowers.

The groom’s cake was red velvet with chocolate filling and decorated with to reflect the groom’s love of hunting and fishing.

Out-of-town guests registered from Arkansas, Texas and various points throughout Louisiana.

On the evening prior to the wedding, the groom’s parents, Tammy and Roger Fontenot, hosted a crawfish boil rehearsal dinner at G&H Kitchen in Crowley.

Following a wedding trip to the Bahamas, the couple will reside in Lake Charles.
