Members of Laureate Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Jean Hanks on Tuesday, March 11.
Hanks introduced her grandson, Justin Hanks, who presented an informative program on his trip to Europe with his family. He told of his travels through Austria, Germany and Belgium. One of the many highlights of the trip was the experience of ringing in the new year in Cologne, Germany, where he and his family had an amazing view of the spectacular fireworks from their hotel patio.
Of course, all of the club members were interested in the various foods that were typical of the countries Justin Hanks had visited. He related that at the end of their 17-day trip, their last stop was at a chocolate shop in Brussels, Belgium, where they took a class in designing their own chocolates. He also showed a book of photographs that they had taken on their trip.
In communications from International, President Elsie Rowell reported that she had received the Founder’s Day packet. Plans will be made for the event at the April meeting.
In other communications, it was reported that an acknowledgment of the plant sent to the Love family on the occasion of the death of their mother, Jane, had been received. The club will miss Jane’s cheerful presence.
Service Chairman Nancy Tislow collected paper towels to be delivered to Miss Helen’s Soup Kitchen. Members were asked to bring toilet tissue to the April meeting.
Plans were made to travel to Erath to view the exhibits at the Acadian Museum on Monday, March 17.
Tislow was elected to serve as president for the next year. Shirley Griffin will continue as vice president, Brenella Joubert as secretary and Glenda Atkinson as treasurer.
Following the meeting, the hostess served delicious refreshments to those present, including Gloria Cart, Griffin, Joubert, Rowell, Gloria Stutes and Tislow.
