St. Michael’s Class of 1963 celebrates 50 years

The St. Michael High School Class of 1963 gathered to celebrate their 50th reunion during the 77th International Rice Festival on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Classmates rode a float in the Grand Parade that afternoon before visiting and reminiscing at their reunion site on Parkerson Avenue in the evening.
The venue was decorated with balloons and table toppers in the school colors of blue and gold. On display were class yearbooks, pennants, graduation caps, a “Mikey” doll and many pictures and scrapbooks, including programs of the class’s 10th, 20th and 30th reunions.
A short program was led by Deacon T. J. Richard. After remembering deceased classmates, Ben Lewis and Jane Thibodeaux, the class sang the St. Michael Alma Mater.
Recognized for having traveled the farthest were Philip “LaLa” Signorelli and Ken Kernan, both of Moses Lake, Wash. Barbara Mouton LaBorde was recognized for the most grandchildren. Che Che and L.J. Gielen were presented with a memento for providing the venue for the celebration, and Michael LeBlanc received a thank you gift for organizing the reunion.
The St. Michael High School graduating class of 1963 consisted of 37 members. Of the 35 living classmates, 26 attended the reunion, including Carol “Che Che” Breaux Gielen, Louis J. “Joey” Breaux, Esther Breaux Trahan, Vickie Broussard Carney, Richard “Dickie” Cart, Sharon Constantin, Katherine “Kaki” Davis Denson, Mary Dubus Sloane, Faye “Monique” Faulk Burdin, Richard Gary, L. J. Gielen, Alberta Habetz Barlow, Sandra Henry Dischler, Charlotte Hensgens Valdetero, Kenny Kernan, John T. Landry, Claudette LeBlanc Aguillard, Michael LeBlanc, Louise Leonards Heinen, Karen Lund Beard, Michael Miller, Barbara Mouton LaBorde, Johnny “Mack” Murray, T. J. Richard, Philip Signorelli and Henry Stefanski.
Spouses and guests included Larry Trahan, Bill Carney, Charlinda Davis Hebert, Sharon Helo Gary, Carl Dischler, Karen Kernan, Sandra Landry, Carol LeBlanc, M. J. LaBorde, Pat Murray, Glenda Richard and Janet Signorelli.
In addition to various points throughout the state, including Baton Rouge, Breaux Bridge, Eunice, Iota, Lafayette, Vinton and Welch, members of the class traveled from Houston, Texas; Jacksonville, Fla.; Prince Frederick, M.D.; and Moses Lake, Wash.
The reunion committee of Mike LeBlanc, Sandra Dischler, Sharon Constantine, Charlotte Valdetero and Che Che and L.J. Gielen were delighted with the turnout.
