Lions land several on Southland Conference Team
HAMMOND – Although the season did not end as they wished it had the Southeastern Lions had a strong showing on the 2008 Southland Conference Football Teams. The lions landed ten players on teams with the highest honor going to Freshman Tight End Simmie Yarborough.
Yarborough was named the Southland Conference Freshman of the year after exploding onto the scene for the Lions during the 2008 season. The true freshman from Brookhaven, Mississippi hauled in fifty-one passes this season for 490-yards and six touchdowns.
Former Shaw High standout, Tommy Conners was named to the first team defense after another banner year in the Lions Secondary. Connors has been named to the All SLC Team in each of his first three seasons at Southeastern.
Connors not only led his team in tackles this season but he finished second in the Southland Conference with 108 tackles and he led the conference with four interceptions. Connors also blocked two kicks on the season and forced a fumble.
Another member of the Lions Secondary was recognized as Marquis Powell was a second team selection. Powel had fifty-one tackles this seven including seven tackles for losses for the Lion Defense.
Eight players were named honorable mention selections in 2008. They are listed below.
