Local arts meeting offers students chance to grow
Area students with an interest in the arts will have a chance to pursue their dreams at a local meeting.
The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts will present an informational meeting for high school students at 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Richland Parish Arts Center on the campus of Rayville High School.
The general public, current high school students and others who would like to learn more about NOCCA’s summer session, application process and residential options are encouraged to attend the free meeting.
Arts center director Wayne Hopper managed to secure one of only two meetings in northeast Louisiana for Rayville though his long-time association with NOCCA.
“It’s a fantastic program and we usually try to send a couple of students,” Hopper said.
The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts offers students across Louisiana tuition-free professional training in creative writing, dance, acting, classical instrumental music, culinary arts, jazz, media arts, musical theater, theater design, visual arts and vocal music. Classes are open to all Louisiana students who successfully audition regardless of if they attend public, private or home schools.
The summer session students receive daily intensive instruction for two-weeks in June with the option for residing with other NOCCA students. Financial aid is also available for student fees and residential costs.
