Local prep stars named to Academic Team
Local athletes have a full plate when it comes to sports. Many of the area’s best local talent generally play more than one sport giving them less time away from the field or court.
But what should remain the top priority is becoming a good student first and becoming a good athlete should follow. Several local athletes exemplify what a true student athlete is and should be.
Three of the area’s best all around athletes are also three of the state’s premiere student athletes. Loranger’s Taylor Abdalla and Kentwood’s Bobby Earl and Tevin Goggins were all named to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Academic All-State Football Team.
Abdalla, Earl and Goggins have a lot in common. They are all outstanding players in their sports and they all carry a 4.0 Grade Point Average. Now that is how it should be done. These players set the bar when it comes to playing at the highest level and succeeding at the highest level in the class room.
Abdalla is not only one of the best football players in the area he is also considered one of the best baseball players as well. Abdalla helped lead the Wolves to the Class 3A playoffs in 2008 and he was a first team District 10-3A Offensive Player last season as well.
Bobby Earl has been making plays since he was a freshman at Kentwood High School. Earl started three seasons for the Roos at quarterback and he was a first team All-District 7-1A player in 2008 and also made the 1A All-State Team. Earl is also one of the Roos top players in Basketball.
Goggins had one incredible season for the Roos as well in 2008. Goggins helped the Roos advance to the Class 1A Regional Playoffs and he was named the District 7-1A Defensive Player of the Year. Goggins was also a first team Class 1A All-State selection in 2008.
Congrats to these student athletes as their parents and the community are proud of what they have done on the field but should be excited about their promising futures as well.
