Local thinclads set for state track and field championships
CROWLEY – A number of local athletes will be in action this weekend in Baton Rouge when the Louisiana Athletic Association hosts the State Track and Field Championships at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
Midland will participate in the Class B-C meet today. Field events will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the running portion of the meet will kick off at 5.
Michael Primeaux headlines Midland’s contingent and will compete in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. He will also run a leg on the Rebel’s 4x400 relay team. Primeaux has the fastest times in the two distance races entering the meet and the Rebels’ relay time is also the fastest of any other regional qualifier.
Crowley High, Notre Dame, Church Point and Rayne will all compete on Saturday in the final day of action.
Crowley’s Mercedes Rogers will lead the Ladies into action when she competes in the long jump, triple jump, high jump and the 300 hurdles. She enters with the best mark in long jump.
Notre Dame’s Hunter Stelly is favored to win the javelin on the boys’ side while Blake Miller has the second-fastest time in the 100-meter dash.
Crowley’s Rontrevius Foreman will compete in the 800, the 1600 and the 300 hurdles as well as run a leg on the Gents’ 4x400 relay along with Taylor Doughty, Kirk Poullard and Thomas Cavell. Doughty also has the second fastest time in the 400.
Church Point’s 4x400 relay team of Desmond Bellard, Zack Meche, James Bellard and Tyler Veronie are favored to win the event as they come in with a blazing time of 3:26.41.
