Local track teams place at area meets
A number of local tracksters have placed during recent track meets held throughout Acadiana.
During Friday’s Bulldog Relays hosted by Iota High School, the Wolves placed 11th with 12.5 points, while the Lady Wolves finished 10th with 26 points.
Listed among the top three finishers on the night were Nia Taylor and Destiny Kapp.
Taylor placed third in the 400-meter dash at 1:06.17 and second on the long jump with a 14-8.5 leap.
Kapp nabbed a third place finish in the pole vault with a 7-6 height.
Rayne High will travel to Welsh on April 9 for the Greyhound Relays, followed by the Wolves Relays on April 15 at Wolf Stadium on the newly surfaced track.
The Notre Dame boys and girls squads traveled to the Patriot Relays on Friday at North Vermilion High School.
The boys squad collected 33 points and a seventh place finish on the night.
Leading point collectors for the Pios was Matt Casanova, named Outstanding Fieldperson as he won the discus (137-10) and claimed second in the shot put (48-3).
Kevin Johson took a second in the javelin (156-1) and Adam Reggie finished third in the 3200-meter run (11:15.0).
On the girl’s side, the Lady Pios collected 65 points and a third place finish.
Celia Charles took a third in the 100-meter dash (12.77).
Taylor Gray claimed a third place finish in the 800-meter run (2:41.0).
Liddy Rothermel held on for a third place finish in the 3200-run (14:34.0).
Kali Zaunrecher took top honors in the 100-meter hurdles (16.69).
The 4-100 meter relay team claimed a third place with a 52.21 time.
In the field, Mayme Cook took top honors in the javelin with a 136-6 toss, while Kylie Pannell placed third in the high jump as she cleared 4-10.
