Taste of Crowley to honor city's historic businesses

CROWLEY — Crowley Main Street will host Taste of Crowley tonight, Thursday, Nov. 14, at Crowley City Hall at 6 p.m. and celebrate the businesses that have stood the test of time in the historic commercial district. The annual event brings the sounds and flavors of the city to promote the assets of Crowley’s downtown district.

Over Crowley’s 126 year history, the city has have experienced many financial ups and downs. Presently, Crowley Main Street is experiencing a revival with over $15 million in private and public investments over the last ten years. As a result of the vision and hard work of many of our citizens, several new businesses have located in the district and the current occupancy rate is almost 90 percent. In addition, The Grand Opera House of the South has emerged as a preeminent regional cultural landmark.

The future is bright for the main street district and to highlight its value, Taste of Crowley will toast the businesses that have called it home for over 50 years.  These historic businesses have served the city for generations and helped to weave the fabric of the community. These businesses include Bier’s Pharmacy; Brandt’s; Edwards, Stefanski & Zaunbrecher; First National Bank; Gremillion’s Drug Store; KSIG; Landry, Landry & Landry; Modern Music/Master Track; Ruddock’s Bakery; Teacher’s Pet; and Williams Insurance Agency.

For the event, music will be provided by the official Crowley Main Street band “The Get Back Band” and Hunter Lambert. Participating host restaurants will provide samples of their signature dishes and include Feezo’s, The Rice Palace, The Town Club, Olde Tyme Café, Ruddock’s Bakery, Zeus, Frosto, and a Time to Remember.

Admission is $25 in advance and $30 at the door.  Tickets are available at Home Bank until November 14.  Taste of Crowley is made possible with the support of its sponsors, Crowley Main Street, the City of Crowley and Home Bank.
