Locals to compete in AAA state meet

CROWLEY – Acadia Parish will be represented by 13 athletes Saturday when the Class AAA State Track and Field Championships get underway at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.

Notre Dame leads the way with four athletes. Crowley High, Rayne and Iota each have two and Church Point has one.

For Notre Dame, Philip LeBlanc will compete in the javelin on the boys’ side while Anne Catherine Venable (high jump) Hayley Gossen (800-meter run) and Mayme Cook (javelin) will vie for a state title on the girls’ side.

Crowley High’s Tinori Boutte qualified in the 100- and 200-meter dashes while Keith Pierson is an entrant in the triple jump.

Rayne’s two entries are both on the girls’ side: Annie Simoneaux will compete in the discus and the javelin while Krystal Chevis will run in the 100- and 400- meter dashes.

Iota’s Blaise LeJeune qualified in the javelin and Chad Abshire will compete in the discus.

Church Point’s lone participant in the state meet is Caleb Stanford in the pole vault.
