Locals to compete in AAA state meet
CROWLEY – Acadia Parish will be well represented Saturday in the Class AAA portion of the Louisiana State Track and Field Championships at LSU’s Bernie Moore Stadium.
A total of 15 parish thinclads will compete on a day in which champions will be crowned in Classes 3A, 4A and 5A. Field events begin at 8:15 and running finals at 3:30.
Crowley High leads the local contingent with nine athletes vying for honors.
CHS speedster Tonori Boutte will be competing in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as well as running legs on the Gents’ 4x100 and the 4x200 relay teams.
Boutte will team with Marquise Lee, Troy Wilridge and Henterrio Guidry on the 4x100 team. He will run with Wilridge, Guidry and Kristian Allen in the 4x200.
Boutte’s regional time of 10.70 in the 100-meter dash is the fastest in the finals field while his time of 22.06 is second best to Franklin’s Thephilos Porter (21.97).
Crowley will also be represented in the field events by Calvin Lewis (shot put), Kaleb Cormier (triple jump) and Devin Hebert (discus).
Crowley’s Mercedes Rogers is the lone entrant on the girl’s side. She will be competing in the 300-hurdles.
Notre Dame’s two entries are both in the field. Mayme Cook enters the meet with the second best throw in the girl’s javelin (131-0) and D.J. Welter has the third best toss in the boy’s discus (139-6).
Rayne’s Annie Simoneaux leads the girl’s field in the javelin (139-6) and is second in the discus (114-2). She will be joined by Tyler Venable in the boy’s javelin (183-1) and John Reynolds in the boy’s 3200-meter run.
Church Point’s Tyler Veronie will compete in the 800-meter run.
