Locals place at state 3-A meet

Not one, but three local athletes placed in their respective events during the 3-A State Track Meet held over the weekend at LSU.

Taking home her second championship in as many years was Rayne High’s Annie Simoneaux. Her effort in the javelin was 150-5, the ninth best toss in the nation this spring and her personal best. If that wasn’t enough, the LSU signee then placed third in the discus with a 110-4 throw.

Joining Simoneaux in the javelin was Mayme Cook of Notre Dame, who claimed the runner-up medal with a toss of 139-6, her personal best by a foot.

On the boys’ side, Rayne High’s Tyler Venable was the lone local to place in the top three positions on the day. The senior recorded a throw of 186-7, his personal best.
