Louisana Volunteers for Family and Community Area 4 Day
Members of Louisiana Volunteers for Family and Community, Inc. assembled on June 5 for Area 4 Day held at the LSU AgCenter Extension Conference Center in Crowley. “Getting to the Heart of Matters” was the theme for the day.
The guest speaker was Dr. Kevin Courville, MCFACC, of Lafayette Heart Clinic in Lafayette.
He specializes in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology and addressed Women and Heart Disease.
Acadia VFC Council hosted this year’s event. Elaine Chatagnier, Acadia VFC council president, welcomed approximately 125 VFC members and guests from Acadia, Beauregard, Evangeline, Jeff Davis, Lafayette, St. Martin, and Vermilion parishes.
Other opening ceremonies including the invocation by Mary Ann Sagrera; Presentation of Colors by State Environment Committee; Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag by Diana Francis; welcoming from LSU Ag Center by Dr. Ronnie Levy; and introductions done by Sylvia Guilotte, Area 4 director.
Other speaker presentations were given on the following subjects, The Marriage Garden by Nikki LeMair and Making homes accessible for Seniors by Cile Guidry.

Three very interesting demonstrations were presented by VFC members including, Recycling by Lynn Landreneau, Evangeline VFC; Simple table decorations by Mary Landry, Jeff Davis VFC; and Silver jewelry through the ages by Adele Mier, Lafayette VFC.
Special guests were LVFC President Judy Broussard and LVFC President-elect Ethel Adcock, who gave important information and updates from the state organization.
Each parish organization set up displays on the following educational topics: Acadia - Hats for cancer; Beauregard - Family; Evangeline - Recycling; Jeff Davis - Heart health; Lafayette - Domestic violence; St. Martin - Autism; and Vermilion - Osteoporosis.
Grace Before Meals was lead by Ollie Tietje, Area 4 secretary, followed by lunch catered by Fezzo’s Restaurant in Crowley. The day ended by reciting the VFC Club Collect lead by Rosie Trahan, Acadia VFC.
