Louisiana Garden Club Federation conducts
Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc., member of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, and member of Deep South Region, held its Summer Board Meeting on August 11 and 12 at the Embassy Suites in Baton Rouge.
“Gardens of the Earth”
was the title for the successful gathering of 139 Garden Club members from across Louisiana.
Meetings began early for President Sybil Colicchio. Recognition was given to the City of Rayne for winning the Cleanest City Contest, Category E, by Gean Gilstrap, chairperson.
The Louisiana Council of National Accredited Flower Show Judges Banquet was held Tuesday evening, one of the convention’s highlights. President Annamary Miester presided and District 8 Garden Clubs presented the program.
Mrs. Virginia Webb, KLCNAFSJ master judge and instructor for Ikebana Society of America, with 20 designs, presented showing members the different types of schools of Ikebana. She also stated that like a poem or painting made with flowers, Ibenobo’s Ikebana expresses both beauty of flowers and the beauty of longing in our hearts.
Tuesday’s meetings began at 8:30 a.m. with a workshop on awards. The final business meeting was held, concluding with the “President’s Luncheon.”
Garden Club members wore hats and celebrated the many awards won by Louisiana garden clubs at the Deep South Convention in Memphis, Tennessee.
The luncheon program was presented by Clyde Ray Webber, Jr., humorist, who kept the Garden Club members in stitches during his 40-minute presentation.
Following the final resolution and prayer, all said their goodbyes with good wishes for a safe return trip home.
