LSU AgCenter prepares for 2010 calendar

Photographers have the chance to contribute their work to the LSU AgCenter’s popular Get It Growing Lawn and Garden Calendar.

Although 2009 is just about to begin, preparations for the 2010 Get It Growing calendar are under way, and the LSU AgCenter is once again offering photographers an opportunity to participate in the competition that selects photos for the upcoming edition.

Professional or amateur nature photographers from Louisiana and surrounding areas may submit their work and earn recognition if their photos are selected for the 2010 Get It Growing gardening calendar.

LSU AgCenter faculty members will select approximately 40 photographs of Louisiana gardens, plants, vegetables and nature scenes for the calendar, according to Elma Sue McCallum, who’s coordinating the project.

The 2009 edition of the calendar, which is a showcase of photos, monthly gardening tips, how-to information and other items based on Louisiana’s climate zones, currently is being sold. Online information and links to order the 2009 calendar are available by visiting www.lsuagcenter.com/getitgrowingcalendar.

Work on the 2010 calendar will begin over the next few months, and it will be published about mid-year, according to McCallum.

A dozen of the photos selected for the 2010 calendar will be featured as full-page, full-bleed, four-color images for each monthly page in the calendar, and one will be used on the cover, McCallum said. The rest will be used throughout the calendar.

Photographers chosen for the monthly pages will receive 10 copies of the published calendar, and their names will be

included with their photos in the calendar, she said. Other contributing photographers also will be listed with their photos, and they will receive two copies of the published calendar.

Submissions must be high-resolution digital images on CD with the photographer’s name, address, telephone number and e-mail address attached, McCallum said. All images must be the original work of the photographer submitting the image.

“We’re asking photographers to submit their favorite photos of lawns, gardens, flowers, trees and vegetables,” McCallum said, adding that each person is asked to limit their entries to 25 or fewer of their best photos.

The deadline for submissions is January 30, 2009, and the entry form is available online at www.lsuagcenter.com/getitgrowingcalendar. Entries must be mailed to Elma Sue McCallum, LSU AgCenter, P.O. Box 25203, Baton Rouge, LA 70894.

Photographers who would like to have their images returned must include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
