The crowd pressed around him admiring the national championship ring worn by LSU defensive corrdinator Bradley Dale Peveto who was the keynote speaker at the Eunice High Coaches Club meeting at the Northwest Community center.
“It means a lot to me to see how you want to see the ring,” the Tiger coach said. “I get my motivation from the passion I see from Tiger fans like you. We play for the state of Louisiana.
“This ring is just a trophy,” Peveto said holding it up for the entire group to see. “But to me what happens in the lives of our players is more important.
“We have a blue-collar kind of team that works hard and we are determined to recruit top character and top athlete-type people,” the coach said to the crowd.
The coach said he is excited about the upcoming 2008 LSU football season and their chances to defend the BCS championship.
“We have two great quarterbacks stepping in,” Peveto said of Jarret Lee and Andrew Hatch who are filling in vacancies left by graduated Matt Flynn and the departed Ryan Perrilloux.
The Coaches Club also listened to Eunice High head football coach Paul Trosclair as he gave his review of the Bobcats’ spring football practices and upcoming 2008 football season.
“We had a good spring and we have a chance to have a good football team and an opportunity to be in every game.”
Trosclair said he is hoping his Bobcats will be in the mix in the playoffs along with powerhouses Archbishop Shaw and Bastrop among others.
The Bobcats open the 2008 season Aug. 29 at the St. Landry Parish Jamboree held at Donald Gardner Stadium in Opelousas.
LSU begins the college football season Aug 30 against Appalachian State in Baton Rouge.
