LSUE's LaCombe earns Player of the Week honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Former Iota standout and current LSU-E star Candace LaCombe set three NJCAA records on her way to being named the NJCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
LaCombe entered the record books after hitting 52 straight free-throws to set the all-time NJCAA mark for consecutive free throws made. The previous record had been 28, set in the 1996-1997 season by Desiree Francis of Kirkwood Community College in Iowa.
Her streak ended at 52 on Jan. 2 when she missed her first attempt in a contest versus Mississippi Gulf Coast.
In addition to the record for consecutive free throws made, Lacombe also set two other records with a 21-for-21 effort Dec. 18. She now holds the record for most consecutive free-throws made in a game and the most free-throws in a game. The previous mark was 16 in the 1996-1997 season by Jennifer Martel of Union County College in New Jersey.
Lacombe began her streak on Nov. 22 against Allen County (Kan.) when after missing her first two attempts, made her last four free throws. She was then perfect in her attempts in contests against Tinker Air Force Base, Murray State (Okla.), San Jacinto (Texas), Scottsdale (Ariz.), Pima (Ariz.), Glendale (Ariz.) and South Mountain (Ariz.).
The 5-10 guard recorded double-digits in her past six games, including three double-doubles. LaCombe recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds against Scottsdale (82-80), 33 points and 11 rebounds against Glendale (106-105) and 21 points and 13 rebounds against Pensacola (74-87).
LaCombe currently stands at 11th in the nation, averaging 19.3 points per game.
