DUSON - Just off the I-10 exit in Duson, a special restaurant inside Lucky Deuces serves their customers with delicious breakfast all day, home cooked meals, fresh desserts made daily and attention to service and customer satisfaction.
The restaurant, now called Gumbo Ya-Ya Bistro and Buffet, has recently put Dianna Desormeaux of Rayne at the helm as head chef and manager where she serves up comfort food.
“I grew up with seven brothers and one sister,” said Dianna. “ I give credit to my mother, the late Doris Simon Thibodeaux who lived in Duson and my brother, Ronnie Desormeaux who lives in Rayne. They taught me how to cook.”
A lunch buffet is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Choices include barbecue pork steak and ribs, red beans and sausage, spaghetti and meatballs, chicken or shrimp jambalaya, cabbage rolls, pork chop stew and seafood on Fridays.
Specialties at the bistro include gumbo, hamburgers, po-boys, crisp salads and Cajun seasoned fried chicken.
Additionally, the staff prides themselves in cleanliness, friendliness and excellent service. The entire staff contributes.
In addition to Chef Dianna the staff includes Chef’s Assistant Tina Savoy, Night Chef Mike Mott, Maria Higginbotham, Whitney Walmer and Katrina Benoit. Lynn and Jim Claxton are managers of Lucky Deuces Travel Plaza.
“They take their jobs very seriously. We offer the cleanest and nicest rest rooms off I-10,” said Lynn Claxton. “The bistro staff ensures that each and every customer is properly served a quality, home cooked meal. I could not do my job without their help.”
The staff at Gumbo Ya-Ya offers dining room service as well as take out.
“Many of our customers fax in their orders and pick up their lunch on the go or they take dinner home,” said Lynn. “We also offer catering for parties and we keep our hearty gumbo on hand in our freezer for convenient pick up.”
As a special promotion, Chef offers “buy seven plate lunches and get your eighth one free.” Chef Dianna emphasized that it is most important that they take care of their customers’ needs.
“We work as a team here,” she said. “We all clean and prep and stock up for the next day.”
To get to Gumbo Ya-Ya, located inside Lucky Dueces Travel Plaza, take exit 92 off I-10. Travel south and take the first right on the frontage road, called Daulat Drive. Just past the small hotel on the left, veer right into the travel plaza parking lot.
The restaurant hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. There number is (337) 873-5400 and their fax number is 873-5411.
General managers, Lynn and Jim Claxton and Chef Dianna invite everyone throughout Acadia Parish to stop in for some home style cooking with a Cajun flair for hospitality.
