Madie Lee Hilts Johnson is 90th birthday honoree
Chef Roy’s Frog City Café in Rayne was the setting on Saturday, SEpt. 12, 2009 for a birthday party held in honor of Madie Lee Hilts Johnson of Eunice
Mrs. Johnson, who turned 90 years of age, was born on Sept. 7, 1919 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hilts, Sr. of Bunkie.
She and her husband, the late Willie Johnson, are parents of Josephine Willis of Baton Rouge, Ezora J. Proctor of Crowley, Willie R. Johnson of Eunice, Sandra Simmons of Ruston, Gloria Vallare of Eunice, and Janet F. Guillory of Eunice.
She is also the grandmother of 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Guests in attendance for the 1:30 p.m. special event traveled from numerous points of Louisiana, in addition to cities in Texas, Maryland, Georgia and California.
The welcome was given by Trina R, Proctor, “Portrait of Our Mother” was recited by Sandra Simmons, and a Carousel of Memories was given by Willie Roy Johnson. Six of her grandchildren presented “A Tribute to Grandmother,” and celebration dances were displayed by the Lighthouse for Jesus Praise Dancers.
Mrs. Johnson’s favorite songs were led by Lois Martin, the Invocation by Rev. Andrew Guillory, and Scripture by Barbara Guillory. Mistress and Master of Ceremonies were Drs. James and Ezora Proctor.
Each guest in attendance was presented special gifts, a display plaque of U.S. President Barack Obama and a Bible marker.
The celebration luncheon consisted of catfish, grilled chicken breast, fried shrimp, baked potatoes, green saalad, bread and lemonade.
Each of the guest tables was decorated in black and topped with a silver centerpiece.
The special birthday cake was a two-tiered square confection with scrolled lace applique and pearl accents along with rose petals. The cake was served by Janet Guillory and Diane Johnson.
