Vocal students at the St. Landry Parish Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts are presenting a one-performance production of the musical "Big River" on Thursday, March 19.

"Big River" is based on the life of the fictional Huckleberry Finn. It received numerous Tony Award while running on Broadway.
Set in the 1840s, it tells of the incredible journey of Huck and the runaway slave Jim going down the Mississippi River.
Many of the characters, created by Mark Twain in his novel, are included in the show. As the journey continues, Huck overcomes the prejudices of the time as Jim gains his freedom.
The show includes a variety of musical styles, including, country, gospel, ragtime, Dixieland jazz, and bluegrass.
MACA vocal students are cast in the various roles and include Clay Cormier as Huck and Dillon Pickney as Jim.
Music Director Jerry Dahl has tried to keep the setting as close to the time period as feasibly possible.
