Magnet school artists exhibit works in Arnaudville

By Marie Dawson

ARNAUDVILLE – An exhibition featuring work from the students of the Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts will be on display at the Town Market Rural Arts Centre here for the next several weeks.

Located in Opelousas, the St. Landry Parish Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts (MACA) opened in 2005. The school combines creativity and core curriculum subjects. In addition to math, English and social studies, the school also provides instruction in drama, dance, creative writing, visual art, choral and band. Students are required to audition to gain admission, and one hour of each school day is devoted to their area of talent with the remainder of the day spent on required subjects.

The combination appears to be working as MACA students have some of the highest LEAP and GEE scores in comparison to parish and state averages.

Enrollment is open to all St. Landry Parish students and those interested in auditioning should contact the school for more information at (337) 948-6310.

The following students will have their work on display at the Arnaudville Town Market Centre: Cameron Arrendondo, Wesley Arnaud, Michaela Bond, Alicia Bihm, Harry Lanclos, Adrian Brisco, Tedrick Citizen, Nikki Courvelle, Donnel LaFleur, Chelsea LeBleu, Cedee’je Payne, Iashia Jones, Taylor Sutor, Raven August, Chris Bihm, Adrell Brisco, Tayler Darbonne, Quinton Carrier, Jennifer Frey, Tranard Charles, Whittney Kimble, Alesha Guillory, Desiree’ Laviolette, Joshua Lanclos, Jasmine Murray, Brooklyn Ledoux, Hillary Ridgeway, Dillon Porche, Jordan Thompson, Albert Avilla, Ned Bernard, Jeniffer Baham Holly Dollenmayer, Krisit Louis, Erin Giesse, Michael Sibille, Daie’Marschaie Jones, Natalie Sibille, Danielle Maddie, Skylar Pham, and John Ward.
