Magnolia Garden Club holds meeting, participates in Cotton Festival
On Monday, October 13, members of the Magnolia Garden Club gathered at the country home of JoAnne Eastin for its monthly meeting. The fall decorations starting at the door and continuing through the reception rooms were inviting.
President Joyce Coreil presided over the meeting attended by the following members: Geanie Ardoin, JoAnne Eastin, Kit Eckert, Haidee Floyed, Debbie Fontenot, Hazel Fontenot, Lola Fontenot, Patrice Hemmi, Lynn Landreneau, Glenda Mitchell, Melanie Vidrine and Gwen Wolff.
Eleven members had prepared an arrangement for the club’s flower exhibit as part of the 55th Louisiana Cotton Festival. Most arrangements featured white and yellow cotton bolls. The visiting public selected the People’s Choice arrangements. First choice was made by Theresa Reed, second choice was made by Joyce Coreil and third choice was Patrice Hemmi’s arrangement, which featured an antique cotton-picking basket. Ribbon cutting ceremonies were held by Cotton Festival Board President Pat Derouselle.
The club made plans for new plantings around the Blue Star marker located at the city hall grounds and a ceremony to be held November 11. Randel and Annette Graser will provide the plants.
Members planning to attend the Louisiana Garden Club Area VII meeting in Lake Charles October 28, are Joyce Coreil, Glenda Mitchell, Lynn Landreneau, Lola Fontenot, Debbie Fontenot, Haidee Floyed, Patrice Hemmi and Geanie Ardoin.
Haidee Floyed and Lynn Landreneau will submit an article of club activities to the Louisiana Garden Club newsletter.
The November meeting will be hosted by Melanie Vidrine November 10.
The door prize donated by Judy Waters was won by Geanie Ardoin. A social hour was enjoyed after the meeting.
