Magnolia Garden Club installs officers at spring social
The Magnolia Garden Club held its annual spring social at the Jungle Monday, May 12, with the following members in attendance: Jeannie Ardoin, Judy Waters, Haidee Floyed, Gwen Wolff, Mable Foreman, Corine Roberie, Joyce Coreil, JoAnne Eastin, Lynn Landreneau, Theresa Reed, Patrice Hemmi, Lola Fontenot, Sharon Fontenot, Kit Eckert, Melanie Vidrine and Debbie Fontenot.
President Joyce Coreil conducted the meeting. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited in unison and Mable Foreman read the conservation pledge. Coreil welcomed all the members and congratulated members Foreman, who was named Woman of the Year, and Toni Hamlin, who was named Business Person of the Year.
On Thursday, June 12, Coreil and vice president Patrice Hemmi will attend a District VII Garden Club meeting.
Jeannie Ardoin, Garden of the Month chairman, reported great interest in the program. The committee will choose recipients for the Garden of the Month and Civic Pride awards throughout the growing season.
To celebrate National Garden Week, the club will have a display at the library, and the mayor signed a proclamation declaring the week of June 1, through June 7, Garden Club Week.
Coreil thanked the following for decorations at the annual banquet: JoAnne Eastin, Jeannie Ardoin, Hazel Fontenot, Haidee Floyed and Judy Waters.
Corine Roberie installed the following officers to serve for the coming year: Joyce Coreil, president; Patrice Hemmi, vice president; Lynn Landreneau, secretary; JoAnne Eastin, treasurer; and Theresa Reed, historian.
The door prize was won by Patrice Hemmi, and JoAnne Eastin presented a beautiful bougainvillea to Joyce Coreil in appreciation of her serving as president. A social hour and meal followed the installation ceremony.
