Main St. holding facade and design workshop
CROWLEY - Crowley Main Street will hold a Façade and Design Workshop on June 29, 2010 at 9 a.m., at the Wells Fargo building at 10 N Parkerson Avenue. This workshop is free for all merchants and property owners of the Main Street District and will focus on merchant/property owners’ awnings/canopies, signage, image and facades. The workshop will last no longer than two hours. Mr. Leon Steel, Design Coordinator for Louisiana Main Street, Division of Historic Preservation, Office of Cultural Development will be the presenter.
“Since the Redevelopment of the Street and Sidewalk project has been completed, we now need to focus more on our image,” says Rita Johnson.
Johnson says the City of Crowley, Main Street and Historic Commission has ordinances pertaining to the issues that will be presented at the workshop and we are encouraging all Main Street business/property owners to attend. Before a business owner does any work to replace or change their sign, canopies, awnings or any work to the façade of their building, they must go through the Main Street office and the Historic Commission in order to receive a Certificate of Appropriateness. If located in the downtown area they are in the Historic Main Street district and there are policies and procedures that must be followed. This workshop will help merchants and business owners to better understand the policies and procedures of the Historic Main Street district and why they are in place, and also help them decide if they would like to apply for a Redevelopment Incentive Grant for your building/business which is now available.
Anyone wishing to attend should contact the Main Street Office and inform them if they will be in attendance for this meeting, as a head count is needed. All those interested may come by the office at 317 N. Parkerson Avenue or call 788-4123.
