Main Street offers merchants thanks for participation
“Here’s a little thank you for all you do to help make Abbeville Main Street wonderful just like you!”
These are the words of thanks offered to Abbeville Main Street businesses this week in observance of Merchants Appreciation Day from the Abbeville Main Street organization.
Abbeville Main Street program is offering thanks to all downtown Main Street businesses by offering them a bag full of chocolate Hershey kisses with a few kind words to encourage them to continue to support Abbeville Main Street through their businesses and community participation.
This Friday, Feb. 13, Main Street director Charlene Beckett will coordinate the distribution of some 200 ‘thank you’ bags to businesses and organizations located within or surrounding the Abbeville Main Street central business district, which is located in the heart of downtown Abbeville and extends to Railroad Avenue.
In 1994, Abbeville was designated as a Louisiana Main Street community. The goal of the program is to retain the small-town flavor of Abbeville while improving the economy and quality of life for the entire community through historic preservation.
The Main Street program works as a unified force with the merchants to help revitalize downtown while protecting the historical qualities of the area and increasing pedestrian traffic. Unlike many downtown revitalization programs, the challenge for the Abbeville Main Street program is not to save a dying downtown area, but to efficiently manage the wonderful assets that makes Abbeville “Someplace Special on the Bayou.”
