The Mamou Rotary Club was busy during its meeting Wednesday, August 27, with a visit from Rotary District Governor Mike Collins and honoring five of its own as Paul Harris Fellows.

Five Rotarians reached the status of a Paul Harris Fellow, meaning they donated $1,000 during their membership with Rotary. Those five were: Nary Reed; Weber Lee Deshotel, which was accepted by his son Mark Deshotel; Mayor Wilda Chamberlain; Father Bob Courville, St. Ann’s Catholic Church; and Hope Landreneau, Mamou Rotary Club president. They received their honors from Collins and Assistant District Governor Larry Lachney.

During Collins address to the Rotary Club, he praised the clubs civic and community work. He named the scholarship program and the baby of the year program as great examples of this work and that the Mamou Rotary Club was following Rotary’s motto of “service above self.” He added he would talk about Mamou’s good works in his newsletter.

Collins also discussed Rotary’s mission of eliminating polio worldwide and discussed other international Rotary programs, such as the group study exchange program and Rotary’s own scholarship program.
