Mardi Gras gala scheduled
A Mardi Gras Gala will be held at the Crowley Art Association Gallery on Saturday, February 7 from 6 – 8 p.m. The CAA Gallery is
located at 222 N. Parkerson Ave. in Historic Downtown Crowley.
Featured artists will be Gert Kilchrist, Lafayette and Ruth Wright, Rayne. Their work as well as the work by 47 area artists and craftsmen will be on display for this special event. The public is invited to attend.
Gert Kilchrist’s passion for painting came after raising her family of six and retiring from her job as a hairdresser. She paints mostly in acrylic, but loves watercolor and water-soluble oils. When it comes to painting, she is an attentive student.
She has recently been widowed and is thankful to God for her artwork as therapy for her loss. Gert has studied under many fine artists and continues to take workshops regularly.
Ruth Wright has displayed her work across the nation since 1979. She works from memories, fleeting impressions, her own photographs and historical research. Emotional content is predominantly humor mixed with joy and love; to convey memories, nostalgia and the recollection and longing for people and events that may have never been a part of the viewer’s life.
Some of the paintings involve complicated groupings of highly animated people in close communication, either visibly or subjectively through color, line and space, all depicted in a caricature style. Major works are executed in oil on canvas or gouache paper.
