Mardi Gras season has arrived!

With the red and green decorations neatly packed away for another year, three new colors are emerging on the scene, purple gold and green.

Those three colors signify the Mardi Gras season has begun and Kaplan’s Krewe Chic-A-la-Pie, will continue their tradition of celebrating Fat Tuesday.

This year’s Mardi Gras falls on Feb. 24.

The krewe kicks off the carnival season by hanging their official krewe emblem flag over the city, commemorating Twelfth Night celebrations for the start of the season.

A flag will hang in City Hall as well as at the junction of Hwy 14, and Cushing through the Mardi Gras season.

By the order of Mayor Linda Hardee, and Queen Jambalaya LIV, Betty Robin, and King Gumbo LIII, Greg “Klebe” Meaux, along with other Krewe members, Mardi Gras festivities are officially underway.

The Krewe will honor their 2009 royalty at their annual masked ball on Feb. 7, at the V-arena here in Kaplan.

The traditional Mardi Gras parade is scheduled to roll at 2:00 pm, on Mardi Gras day, Tuesday, February 24 downtown on Cushing Avenue.

The festivities will end with a masked march, and awards ceremony after the parade at the V-arena followed by a dance with D.J. entertainment.

Follow the Kaplan Herald for more information in the weeks to come, or you can contact Marlene Romero at 643-6554 for more information.

The Krewe thanks Mayor Linda Hardee for her cooperation with celebrating the 55th year of Krewe Chic-A-La-Pie, and Kaplan Mardi Gras
